Rami Society is a non-profit org which works in the twin fields of child education and employment. Team Rami has tirelessly worked for the cause of providing relief to daily wage workers who have been badly hit by the pandemic. As at end of June 2020, the team has reached out to 5000 plus families and distributed 50,000 plus kgs of ration. As an extension to our COVID relief programme, and adopting at a more sustainable model, the team decided to implement a employment generation programme, wherein one woman from a COVID 19 would be employed to produce cloth masks, which would be distributed among the poor and helpless.
As we brainstormed on the requisite know-how to implement the mask making initiative, we got in touch with Ms Alka Asthana from Sangati who have already been doing this activity on a Pan-India basis. She graciously accepted our request to send someone from her team to train the young women identified by team Rami for the mask making production unit at our Trilokpuri, East Delhi premises.
On 06th June 2020, Sudhirji from Alka’s team co-ordinated the training held in Trilokpuri. Mr Lakshman visited our premises and trained our team of 7 young women on how to make cloth masks. He trained the team on the cutting of the material, the industry specification with regards to sizes, hygiene protocols to follow prior to making masks and a few common styles of masks . The training was extremely beneficial to our new trainees and they followed Mr Lakshman’s instructions with rapt attention and great enthusiasm. Would like to put on record our sincere gratitude to Ms Alka Asthana and her team for facilitating the training for Team Rami and helping us to kickstart the mask making activity with a aim to reach out to the to the helpless and the vulnerable and protect them from the ravages of the deadly Coronavirus. The mask making activity is also in line with our honourable prime ministers directive as it will allow the women to earn a small income from this activity enabling them to move from “Nirbhar” to “Aatmnirbhar”…in the true sense of the word.
